Mt. Rokko Snow Park sits on top of Mt Rokko, a little over half an hour by car from central Kobe, and opened in 1964 as Japan's first ski area built on artificial snow. Snow-making machines keep it running from early December to early March even though the area gets little natural snow. It is compact, with three short, mostly easy runs and three lifts, plus a Snow Land zone just for sledding and snow play, and everything from wear to skis can be rented, so it suits first-timers and families. Night sessions run on weekends and holidays, and it is an easy trip from Kobe or Osaka by car or by cable car and bus.
