Mt. Noseyama

野瀬山

Noseyama (391 m), on the Mino–Ōmi provincial border between Sekigahara Town in Gifu Prefecture and Maibara City in Shiga Prefecture, is crowned by the ruins of Takekurabe Castle. Built in 1570 by Azai Nagamasa to guard the border against Oda Nobunaga, the Sengoku-era fortress retains well-preserved earthen ramparts forming eastern and western baileys and commanded the Tōsandō (Nakasendō) highway. Maintained as a Maibara City trekking course, it appears in the guides "Gifu no Yama-tabi (Vol. 1)" and the "70 Mountain Castles of Ōmi."
