Mt. Nanao

A 691-meter peak straddling the boundary between Nagahama City and Maibara City in northern Shiga Prefecture, forming part of the Nanao range that flanks the eastern edge of the Kohoku plain. The valley between the Ibuki and Nanao ranges holds the Kōzuhara, Magatani, Kōka and Yoshitsuki hamlets, which together comprise the nationally designated cultural landscape "Higashi-Kusano Mountain Village." Hikers from the Anegawa basin see Mt. Ibuki across the eastern valley, while the ridge looks west over Lake Biwa and Chikubu Island. A third-class triangulation point marks the summit, and the mountain is included in the Ōmi Hyakuzan.
