Mt. Matsudaira

Mt. Matsudaira (954 m) marks the northern end of the Gozu range on the border between Agano City and Aga Town in Niigata Prefecture, and is included in the Echigo 100 Mountains and Niigata 50 Walks lists. It is the second-highest peak in the Gozu range after Mt. Hishi and holds the range's only first-order triangulation point, with summit views encompassing the entire ridge and — on clear days — Sado Island across the Sea of Japan. The standard route from the Uodome-no-Taki trailhead reaches the top in about two and a half hours, and the annual Gozu range mountain-opening ceremony is held on May 3.
