Mt. Kamewari is a 234 m peak on the boundary between Higashi-Ōmi City and Ōmi-hachiman City in Shiga Prefecture, also known as Mt. Chōkōji. The summit holds the ruins of Chōkōji Castle, founded in the mid-Kamakura period by Sasaki Masataka, and gives both the mountain and castle their names from the famous 1570 episode in which Shibata Katsuie — besieged by Rokkaku forces during Oda Nobunaga's Ōmi invasion — smashed the castle's water jars (kame) to galvanize a desperate sally, earning him the nickname "Kamewari Shibata." Stone walls, dry moats and an ancient well still survive across the site. The peak is included on the Ōmi 70 Castle Mountains list.
