Mt. Ishigakiyama

Mt. Ishigakiyama is a 262 m hill in Hayakawa, Odawara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, originally called Kasagake-yama. In 1590, Toyotomi Hideyoshi spent some 80 days building a fully stone-walled castle here as his headquarters for the Siege of Odawara, and the legend that the trees around it were felled overnight to reveal a finished fortress earned it the nickname Ichiya-jō ('One-Night Castle'). The first castle in the Kantō region built entirely in stone, its 'nozura-zumi' masonry by Ōmi-Anō craftsmen survives well today; the site is a National Historic Site within Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park and is now maintained as Ishigaki-yama Ichiya-jō Historical Park, walkable from JR Hayakawa Station.
