Mount Tara is a 983 m peak in Tara, Saga Prefecture, crowned by the upper shrine of Taradake-jinja. The name also collectively covers Kunimidake (996 m), this peak and Maedake, or Hon-Taradake (983 m). Its natural forest shelters rare plants and animals, and the surrounding area became a Saga nature conservation area in 2002. Golden spider lilies and Tsukushi rhododendrons grow here, and the headwater forest supports local communities. Known as a spiritual spot, it attracts beginners and experienced hikers alike.
