Mount Onagura

Onagurayama is a 571 m mountain on the border of Motomiya City and Otama Village in Fukushima Prefecture. Formed of andesite from volcanic activity about two million years ago, its iron-rich rock has oxidized to leave the crags reddish in places. It is tied to the 'Tsuruzuka' (Crane Mound) legend of the samurai Yamada Kintarō and a crane bearing a gold tag, linked to Minamoto no Yoritomo, and its summit gives a near-complete view over the fields of Otama, making it a popular hiking destination.
