Mount Nijūrokuya

Mount Nijūrokuya is a 971.7 m peak in the Akiyama district of Uenohara City, Yamanashi, set on the ridge dividing the Dōshi and Ōnoiri rivers. It is locally called Akiyama Nijūrokuya-yama to distinguish it from the Dōshi-Nijūrokuyasan in Tsuru. The name reflects the tsukimachi belief in which villagers once gathered to greet the moonrise of the twenty-sixth night of the seventh lunar month; the small Nijūrokuya stone monument that still stands beside the summit bears witness to that tradition. The wooded summit offers limited views, but glimpses of Mount Fuji appear along the ridge, and the peak features in Shin Hana no Hyakumeizan, Yamanashi Hyakumeizan, and Nihon Hyaku Reizan. Most parties approach from Hamazawa bus stop or its trailhead car park.
