Mount Dainichi

Mount Dainichi is a 1,568 m rocky pinnacle on the southern Ōmine Okugake-michi pilgrim route, straddling Shimokitayama Village and Totsukawa Village in Yoshino District, Nara Prefecture, between Taiko-no-Tsuji and Fukasen-no-Shuku just south of Mount Shaka-ga-take (1,800 m). Within Yoshino-Kumano National Park and the UNESCO World Heritage "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range," the summit holds a statue of Dainichi Nyorai and is climbed via chained rock walls as one of the active Shugendō ascent sites of the range.
