Mount Amagiri

天霧山

A 378 m mountain northwest of Zentsuji, Kagawa Prefecture, straddling Tadotsu and Mitoyo. Its crags and cliffs were used for Amagiri Castle, held by the Kagawa clan from the Nanboku-cho into the Sengoku period. A legend about a nun revealing the defenders’ lack of water and being killed after the castle fell gave it the alternative name Amagiri-jo, written with characters meaning “nun cutting.” Trails approach from Gogakuji on the Zentsuji side and Iyadaniji on the Mitoyo side, taking about 90 minutes from the trailheads to the castle site.
