A 524 m peak straddling the border between Kotohira Town and Zentsuji City in western Kagawa Prefecture. It forms the southern end of a ridge that rises north through Zōtō-san to its highest point at Mt Ōasa (616 m); viewed from the Marugame Plain the whole massif is said to resemble a resting elephant's head, lending it the alternative name Zōtō-san ('Elephant-Head Mountain'). The Kotohira-gū — Konpira-san, head shrine of the nationwide Konpira faith — sits midway up the slope, reached by 785 stone steps to the main hall and 1,368 to the inner shrine. The whole massif lies within Setonaikai National Park and is designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty and Natural Monument, and the mountain appears in the late-Edo Nihon Meizan Zue.
