Unstaffed emergency shelter at Fudotai, the ninth station of Mt. Iwate, at about 1,830m in Towada-Hachimantai National Park, Takizawa City, Iwate Prefecture. Built by Iwate Prefecture in 2005 and entrusted to Takizawa City, it is a 59-square-metre timber building with a stated capacity of 15. Its exterior is stone-faced, and it serves as the ninth-station rest and refuge point on the trail running up to Mt. Iwate from Ogamizaka, a place to sit out bad weather or darkness. The prefecture provides it as a shelter anyone may use when the weather turns, and as a rule it holds no supplies or fittings. It stands in a special protection zone of the national park, among alpine vegetation of creeping pine, iwabukuro and iwakagami. The Ogamizaka course from Ogamizaka parking (40 minutes by car from Morioka IC) is 7.8km and 4h40m one way, and the summit is a further 40 minutes above the hut. There is no water source; for water you must drop down to the eighth-station shelter. Mt. Iwate is an active volcano and access restrictions may apply, so climbers should check the current regulations before setting out.
