Taiheizan Ski Area OPAS Japanese — Japanese

Taiheizan OPAS is Akita City's own ski area in Taiheizan Resort Park at Nibetsu, the closest slopes to the city, about 30 minutes from the centre. A high-speed quad and two pair lifts serve six mostly gentle runs, including a 2 km cruiser, so it suits families and beginner to intermediate skiers. Night skiing offers views of the city lights on clear evenings, and there is snowmaking and a free kids' snow area. The Quadome The Boon hot-spring and pool complex next door is the usual after-ski stop. The name comes from upas, the Ainu word for snow.

Car: Akita Expressway, Akita-Chuo IC (via Prefectural Roads 28 and 232), 14 km, 20 min
Parking: 1,400 spaces · Free (Lots 1–3, 1,400 spaces in total; large buses and microbuses accepted)

Train

Shinkansen Akita Station Akita Shinkansen → Akita Chuo Kotsu route bus from West Exit stop 12 (Nibetsu Resort Koen Line bound for The Boon), about 35 min, get off at Ski-jo-mae. About 30 min by car
