Mt. Maedake

Mt. Maedake is a 774 m peak in Akita City, the westernmost summit in the Taihei Mountain Range that links Okudake (Mt. Taihei), Asahidake, Deshigaeshidake, Hozodake, Tsurugidake, Tsurugadake, Nakadake and Maedake. It lies within Taiheizan Prefectural Natural Park and is climbed via trails from the Taiheizan Ski Resort Opus or from Kanayama Falls. Once called "Shinsen-zan" and historically off-limits to women, it retains the site of a Nyonin-do hall along the trail. The peak is included in the Akita Prefecture mountains guidebook.
