Nukabira Gensenkyo Ski Area sits in the hot-spring village of Nukabira inside Daisetsuzan National Park in Kamishihoro, Hokkaido, with views of the Higashi-Taisetsu peaks and Lake Nukabira. Tree-lined runs through spruce and fir hold good powder, and there is an SAJ-certified ski school. Once run by Prince Hotels as Nukabira Onsen Ski Area, it has been operated by a local hotel since 2008, and since 2015 only the lower slopes have been open with the upper lifts suspended. The village's inns offer free-flowing hot springs, and buses run from Obihiro Station in about 1 hour 50 minutes.
