Mt. Tsubokasayama is a 421 m hill on the southeastern foothills of the Mt. Hiei massif in Anao, Ōtsu City, Shiga Prefecture, sitting astride the Shiratori-goe pass route connecting Sakamoto on Lake Biwa to eastern Kyoto. Its summit preserves the earthworks of Tsubokasayama Castle — a Sengoku-period yamashiro with a circular keep and surrounding obi-kuruwa terraces — recorded in the Shinchō Kōki as one of the positions held by the allied Asakura–Asai forces under the protection of Enryaku-ji during the 1570 Siege of Shiga against Oda Nobunaga.
