Mount Nemotosan (1,199 m) rises at the headwaters of the Kiryu River, straddling Kiryu and Midori (Gunma) and Sano (Tochigi). In the Edo period the mountain was the focus of the Nemoto-san Shinkō faith centered on the Bhaisajyaguru bodhisattva, drawing pilgrims from across the Kantō region, and chained passages and ladders to a cliff-edge inner shrine survive from that era. The peak appears on numerous selections including the Gunma 100, Kanto 100 and Tochigi 100 Mountains lists.
