Mt. Matsuojiyama

Matsuojiyama is a 504 m mountain in Maibara, Shiga Prefecture, at the northern tip of the Suzuka range. It is the former precinct of Matsuo-ji, said to have been founded in the Nara period, and near its summit stand the ruins of the temple's old main hall (a prefectural historic site) and a 4.85 m stone nine-tier pagoda (a National Important Cultural Property). Pilgrimage waymarker stones line the trail, which is maintained by a local preservation society, and the mountain is one of the 'Suzuka 300 Peaks.'
