Mt. Ihaidake
位牌岳
Fuji, Shizuoka / Susono, Shizuoka · Elevation 1,457 m
Mt. Ihaidake, 1,457 m, is the second-highest peak of the Ashitaka volcanic range in central Shizuoka Prefecture (after Mt. Echizen at 1,504 m) and straddles Numazu City, Susono City and Nagaizumi Town. Its name derives from the silhouette suggesting an upturned Buddhist memorial tablet (ihai). The summit sits on a gentle, beech-clad ridge that is calm in contrast to its rugged northern flanks, where a probable crater is preserved on the western side. The classic loop — Mizunomi water source → Atago-yama → Baba-daira → Hakama-goshi-dake → Ippuku-tōge → Ihaidake — takes about 4.5–5 hours from the trailhead promoted by Numazu City's official hiking site. The connecting ridge southwest to Yobuko-dake and Echizen-dake is closed due to trail collapse. The peak is listed in the 'Fuji-no-mieru-yama 223', commanding views of Mt. Fuji and Suruga Bay.
