Mount Hitsugatake (781 m) sits on the boundary of Gojo City and Shimoichi Town in Nara Prefecture and is one of the Yoshino Three Mountains. Its name is said to come from the box-like profile ("karabitsu") seen from Oyodo, and the summit holds a small Hachiman shrine. Long considered a foothill of the Omine Range, the entire massif is privately owned Kaibara District forest, and entry is forbidden from late September to late November when the area is harvested for matsutake mushrooms.
