Mount Yahazu
矢筈山
Miyoshi, Tokushima · Elevation 1,848 m
Mount Yahazu is a 1,848.7 m peak on the border of Miyoshi City and Tsurugi Town in Tokushima Prefecture, the chief summit of the Iya range within the Shikoku Mountains and the fifth-highest peak in Tokushima after Ichinomori. Above 1,800 m it carries virgin beech forest and birch groves and grasslands of endemics such as the Shikoku geranium, and its name is traced either to a legend that Heike captain Noritsune's arrow flew here from the Battle of Yashima or to the arrow-nock-shaped 'Yahazu Stone' near the top. The usual approach is from the 1,520 m Ochiai Pass, and it is counted in the Hundred Famous Mountains of Shikoku.
