Mount Usa (335 m) rises at the eastern foot of Mount Hiei in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, with the ruins of Usayama Castle on its summit. The castle was built in 1570 by Mori Yoshinari, vassal of Oda Nobunaga, and fell in the same year during the Battle of Sakamoto against the Asai-Asakura alliance; Yoshinari died defending it. Usa Hachimangu Shrine stands midway up the mountain, and the peak is a short hike behind Omi-jingu Shrine. It is included in the list of 70 Castles of Omi.
