Mount Kannon (472 m), also called Hitaki-yama, rises in the centre of Ikuchijima Island in Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, and is the highest peak in the Geiyo Islands. From the summit one looks across the Seto Inland Sea to Hakatajima and Ōmishima and as far as the Shikoku mountains. A sacred place for rain-prayer rites, it holds the Hitaki Kannon Festival on the second Sunday of April; the mountain lies within Setonaikai National Park and is listed in the Hiroshima Prefecture 100 Mountains and the Hiroshima prefectural climbing guide.
