A mountain hut at about 2,350m on the Nagano side of Norikuradake, beside prefectural route 84 — the Norikura Echo Line. From JR Matsumoto station take the Matsumoto Dentetsu line to Shin-Shimashima, then a bus to the Kanko Center in Norikura Kogen, and from there the spring bus or the shuttle bus for about 37 minutes; the stop called Kuraigahara Sanso-mae is at the door. Private cars are barred beyond Sanbondaki, so the bus is compulsory for the last stretch. The hut opens over the New Year and then from February to late October — one of the few here to do so — serving as a base for the corridor of snow walls in early summer, for climbs to Tatamidaira and Kengamine, for the autumn colours of Kuraigahara, and in winter for ski tourers who ride three lifts and then skin up the tour course. It takes 30 guests, strictly by reservation. Power comes from a generator and goes off at 20:30, there is no bath, and water is drawn from the stream or melted from snow. What it offers instead is a quiet day and night on Norikura.
