Koyaike Hutte

Triangular-roofed hut beside the Koyaike marsh, midway between Myokosan (2,454m) and Hiuchiyama (2,462m), both among Japan's 100 Famous Mountains. The marsh vegetation and the flowers along the trail are rich — skunk cabbage gives way to Hakusan-kozakura and then cotton grass — and the autumn colours peak from late September into early October. Hiuchiyama is the northern limit of the rock ptarmigan's range in Japan. The building is divided into a main and a newer wing, with bunk-shelf dormitories, six-mat private rooms, a dining room, a shop and a self-catering space, and from June a café open to day visitors. A campsite lies just southwest of the marsh.
