DAI-NI Chozo Hut

Mountain lodge at Miharashi (Shimotashiro Crossroads), near the middle of the Ozegahara marsh, in Hinoemata Village, Minamiaizu District, Fukushima Prefecture. It was opened in 1956 by Hirano Choei, the second-generation keeper of Chozo-goya. It sleeps 70 in Japanese-style rooms of six to ten mats, some of which can be opened into each other for larger parties. Inside are a hinoki-wood bath with a deep tub, washlet toilets, a washroom, a drying room, a lounge, a dining room, a shop and a charging area open until 21:00, plus Wi-Fi. Old beech forest presses in on the east side, while the west-facing rooms and the terrace by the entrance look across the marsh to Shibutsu-san. Miharashi, where six huts stand together like a small village, is a base for walking Ozegahara, climbing Hiuchigatake or Shibutsu-san, and heading for Sanjo Falls and the Hiuchi-ura forest road. On foot it is about three hours from Hatomachi Pass and four from Fujimi Pass on the Gunma side, and about four hours from either Numayama Pass or Miike on the Fukushima side. The lodge sits in a special protection zone of Oze National Park, with no vehicle access. It is closed for the whole of the 2026 season for full renovation.
