大日平山荘

Mountain hut at about 1,750m on Dainichi-daira, the marshy shelf along the ridge leading to Dainichidake at the western end of the Tateyama range. It lies in Ashikuraji, Tateyama Town, Toyama Prefecture, partway along the trail from the Shomyo Falls trailhead toward Dainichidake. Reaching the trailhead takes about 20 minutes by the Shomyo Falls sightseeing bus from Tateyama Station; there is free parking at the falls, and the Katsuradai gate on the prefectural road is open only 06:00-19:00 in July and August and 07:00-18:00 in other months. The hut sleeps 15 and is run single-handed by its keeper. Parties of two or more get a private room; solo guests share a room divided by curtains. Booking is compulsory, with a deposit transferred in advance. The toilet is for guests only, and the earthen-floored entrance area is open as a free rest space.
