大日小屋

Mountain hut at about 2,420m at the foot of Dainichidake (2,501m) on the Dainichi ridge branching off the Tateyama range. In clear weather Tsurugidake (2,999m) stands directly opposite, and at dusk meals are served in a dining room lit by oil lamps — hence its reputation as the 'lamp hut'. It is a small place with only two shared rooms, each guest given a partitioned space. There is no campsite, water is very precious on this ridge, and there is no bath or shower. Two trails lead here: one from Murodo-daira over Murodo-nokkoshi and Oku-Dainichidake, the other climbing the ridge from Shomyodaira near Shomyo Falls; the two meet near the hut and continue to Dainichidake. Although close to the vast Murodo-daira trailhead area, most walkers head for Tateyama or Tsurugidake, so this is a comparatively quiet corner. Booking is compulsory.
