This return route starts at Shugakuin Station on the Eizan Railway, climbs Kirarazaka, follows the Higashiyama and Kitayama sections of the Kyoto Trail, and reaches Mount Shimei on Mount Hiei. The route passes junctions toward Mudo-ji and the World Heritage trail; around the 834 m summit, it offers the upland landscape of Mount Hiei.
