This standard return route climbs from the Asahidake Ropeway's Sugatami Station through Sugatami Pond and the Asahidake stone shelter to 2,291 m Mount Asahidake, Hokkaido's highest peak. Beyond the pond, it ascends steep volcanic scree and rock. The summit looks across the Daisetsuzan range, while the area around Sugatami Station has volcanic fumaroles and alpine plants.
