Niwa Ski Area is a small town-run hill in the Nishi-Niwa district of Kitahiyama, Setana, in southwestern Hokkaido. Managed by the town board of education, it is free to use and serves mainly local families and schools, hosting ski lessons for pupils and the town's beginner classes. There is a lift and a lodge. During the winter school holidays it opens in the daytime; after that it runs on weekday evenings under lights and in the daytime at weekends, so locals can ski after work or school. The season runs from early January to the end of February, depending on snow.
