Nishi-no-Nishiyama stands in the western part of Akiyoshidai, one of Japan's largest karst plateaus, in Mine City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The Mine City tourism association's official trekking map gives its height as 398.9 m and calls its broad summit a place to relax. The map's Akiyoshidai Family Travel Village course, about two hours fifteen minutes, loops from the village car park over Ryūgomine (425.5 m), the highest point of Akiyoshidai, and Ohachiyama (406 m) to Nishi-no-Nishiyama and back; from the summit walkers can extend the route down to Myōkenbaru and on to Wakatakeyama and the Karst Observatory. Higashi-no-Nishiyama (320.9 m) lies to the east. The area is within Akiyoshidai Quasi-National Park and is recognised as the Mine-Akiyoshidai UNESCO Global Geopark.
