Mt. Yuyagatake

Yuyagatake is a 622.4 m peak in Yuya, Higashi-betsuin in Kameoka City, Kyoto Prefecture, lying on the northern edge of the Hokusetsu Mountains. The summit area is dotted with massive rocks — including formations known as Taiko-iwa and Shaku-iwa — and stone shrines to Kumano Gongen dating back to the 12th century, earning the peak the nickname "the Kōya of the West". Trails are maintained by residents of Yuya village (a settlement with Heike-refugee tradition); the mountain appears in regional guides such as the "Kyoto Prefecture 339 Mountains" and "Triangulation-Point Peaks of Kyoto".
