Mt. Tatsuwaresan
竪破山
Takahagi, Ibaraki · Elevation 658 m
Mt. Tatsuwaresan is a 658.3-meter peak straddling the borders of Takahagi City, Juo-cho in Hitachi City, and the Satomi district of Hitachiota City in northern Ibaraki Prefecture. A sacred mountain cloaked in primeval beech forest, it is famed for the "Seven Strange Rocks and Three Falls" — most notably Tachiwari-ishi, the seven-meter "sword-split stone" that legend says was cleaved in two by the Heian-period warrior Minamoto no Yoshiie. Kurosaki Shrine stands at the summit, and the peak is a featured stage of the Hitachi-no-Kuni Long Trail. It is included in the Kanto Hyakumeizan and Nihon Hyaku Teizan lists.
