Mt. Nihondaira (1,081 m) rises on the border between Aga Town in Higashi-Kanbara District and Gosen City in Niigata Prefecture, as one of the principal summits of the Kawachi range. It is included in the Niigata 100, Echigo 100 and Quiet Mountains lists. The summit forms a gentle plateau surrounded by beech forest and is known as one of Niigata's quieter peaks, with relatively few visitors despite its inclusion in regional guidebooks.
