Mt. Ōkura

Mt. Ōkura (864 m) rises in eastern Gosen City, Niigata Prefecture, at the western edge of the Kawachi range, forming the Suganadake massif together with Mt. Sugana and Mt. Narusawamine. Beech old growth and giant katsura trees grow on its slopes, and clear springs such as Yoshishimizu at the foot of the mountain provide drinking water for Gosen. Two trails — the Ōkura Course and the Doppara-shimizu Course — climb to the summit, and the local mountain-opening ceremony is held each year in late April, making the peak a popular beginner-friendly hike.
