Mt. Motokiyosumi

Mt. Motokiyosumi is a 344.3 m peak on the boundary between Kamogawa and Kimitsu cities in Chiba Prefecture, on the south-eastern Bōsō Peninsula just north-west of Mt. Kiyosumi. The name 'Motokiyosumi' ('former Kiyosumi') refers to the temple Seichō-ji that once stood on this summit before being relocated to the present-day Mt. Kiyosumi. The summit area lies within a Chiba Prefectural Natural Environment Conservation Area and shelters a primeval forest of momi (fir) and tsuga (hemlock) of academic interest, rare in Bōsō. The ridge forms the central section of the Kantō Fureai-no-Michi 22 'Fir and Hemlock Trail' (Seichō-ji to Kanayama Dam, about 13.5 km), and the mountain features in the 'Mountains of Chiba' (the prefectural climbing guide), the Bōshū Low Famous Mountains, 'Mountains of the Tokyo Area' and several other selections as a representative satoyama of the Bōsō region.
