Mt. Kujihiradake

Kujihiradake (706.3 m) is a satoyama peak overlooking Oono, Hirono Town, Iwate Prefecture, on the northern edge of the Kitakami Highlands. A maintained 5 km trail (about an hour one way) climbs from Agripark Osawa to the summit, which carries a 360-degree observation deck looking from Mt. Iwate and the Hakkoda range to the Pacific. A small shrine honoring the horse-deity "Osōzen-sama" stands just below the summit, and the Hirono Town Tourism Association hosts its Spring Kujihiradake Climbing Event each May to mark the official trail opening. The mountain appears on the Iwate 100 Mountains list.
