Mt. Kōsagi

Mt. Kōsagi is a 966 m freestanding peak in Sekikawa Village (Iwafune District), Niigata Prefecture, listed in the Niigata 100 Meizan and Echigo Hyakuzan. Its name comes from a rabbit-shaped patch of remnant snow that appears on the western face of the summit in early spring, and the mountain is said to have been opened in 861 CE by the Tendai priest Jikaku Daishi (Ennin). The Nakatsuka-trailhead route crosses three ridges before topping out, rewarding hikers with a 360-degree summit panorama and early-summer Himesayuri lilies along the ridge.
