Mt. Hanatsuka

花塚山

Mt. Hanatsuka is a 918 m peak on the boundary between Kawamata Town (Date District) and Iitate Village (Sōma District) in northern Fukushima Prefecture, and the highest point in Kawamata Town. Set in the northern Abukuma Highlands, it is included in the Utsukushima Hyakumeizan and Fukushima 30 Peaks. The mountain has long been a site of worship for Hanatsuka-yama Daigongen, with rain-making pilgrimages held in drought years. In 2017 the 'Fujimi-iwa' rock just south of the summit was certified as the northernmost spot from which Mt. Fuji can be seen, about 300 km away.
