Hakusan is a 283.9 m hill in the Iiyama district of Atsugi City, Kanagawa, set within Iiyama Hakusan Forest Park at the eastern foot of the Tanzawa Range. The peak is named for the small Hakusan Shrine on its summit, and the surrounding slopes hold a cluster of ancient temples and shrines—Iiyama Kannon Chōkokuji, Kongōji and Ryūzō Shrine—said to have been founded by the Nara-period monk Gyōki. From the summit observation deck, hikers can pick out Yokohama's Minato Mirai, Tokyo Skytree and even Mount Tsukuba across the Kanto Plain. Reached by bus from Honatsugi Station, the loop via the gentler Onnazaka and steeper Otokozaka makes for an easy two-hour walk popular with beginners.
