Mt. Hakkō

八高山

An 832 m peak on the border between Shimada and Kakegawa cities in central Shizuoka, topped by a first-class triangulation point and ranking as the highest summit of either city. The name reflects the mountain's long history as a Shugendō training site, and Hakkō Shrine still stands a few minutes below the top. The trail starts directly from Fukuyō Station of the Ōigawa Railway, making this one of the region's classic "climb-from-the-train" peaks; on clear days the summit looks out over Mt. Fuji, the Southern Alps' Mt. Zaru, the Ōi River and west to the Hamamatsu cityscape.
