Mt. Bokoifuji

母恋富士

A 141 m hill in the Bokoi-Minami, Bokoi-Kita, and Gozensui districts of Muroran City, Hokkaidō, named after its once-conical, Fuji-like form. A memorial to the 16 sailors killed in the 1935 explosion aboard the heavy cruiser Ashigara during Fourth Fleet exercises once stood near the summit. From the early 1960s onward the silhouette was disfigured by quarrying for road paving and harbour reclamation, but the slopes are now being replanted under Muroran's "Furusato no Mori 21" greening project. The hill appears in the Furusato Fuji 100 selection.
