Mount Yahiko is a 634-metre peak on the boundary between Yahiko Village and Nagaoka City in Niigata Prefecture, the principal summit of the Yahiko range that runs along the Sea of Japan coast of the Echigo Plain. The mountain has long been a centre of worship, with the historic Yahiko Shrine at its foot, and its summit area lies within the Sado-Yahiko-Yoneyama Quasi-National Park. Reached in about ninety minutes from the front trailhead and also served by a ropeway and the Yahiko Skyline toll road, it appears on numerous renowned lists including Niigata 100 Meizan, Echigo Hyakuzan, and the Hyakutei-zan low-mountain selections, offering panoramic views of the plain, the sea, and Sado Island.
