Mount Shirataki

白滝山

Mount Shirataki is a 458 m peak in Iwane, Miwa-cho, Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, formed from a massive granite outcrop. Its name comes from rainwater streaming down the bare rock face like a white waterfall, and the summit holds the ruins of Shirataki Castle said to have been built by fleeing Taira clansmen in the late Heian period. Ridge climbs offer sweeping views of Yasaka Dam, and the peak is included in several Yamaguchi mountain lists including the Yamaguchi 100 Mountains and Bocho 100 Mountains.
