桟敷ヶ岳
Kyoto, Kyoto · Elevation 896 m
Mount Sajikigatake is a 895.9 m peak in the Kyoto Kitayama range on the border between Kita Ward and Ukyō Ward (Keihoku) in Kyoto City, the highest point in Kita Ward and within the Kamo River watershed. Its name comes from a legend that Prince Koretaka built a viewing platform (sajiki) on its summit to gaze toward the imperial capital, and the village of Kumogahata at its foot still lights pyre characters on its flanks each August during the Matsuage fire ritual. It is counted among the Hundred Famous Mountains of Kansai.
