Mount Oike
御池岳
Higashiōmi-shi, Shiga · Elevation 1,247 m
Mount Oike rises to 1,247 m on the border of Higashiomi City in Shiga and Inabe City in Mie, the highest summit of the Suzuka range and of Higashiomi. The peak lies within Suzuka Quasi-National Park and heads the city's Suzuka 10 Peaks selection (designated in 2015). Its broad summit, the so-called Table Land, is a karst plateau of dolines that hold seasonal ponds and pavements of karren stones. The Botan-buchi and Tengu-bana viewpoints look out over both Ise Bay and Lake Biwa, while moss-mantled forests and high marsh-like meadows give the mountain its distinctive character. The standard loop climbs from the Kuragake Tunnel trailhead via Koguruimi Valley to neighbouring Suzukita-dake.
