Mount Odaka

Mount Odaka is a 2,212 m peak on the border between Iida City's former Kamimura district and Ōshika Village in Nagano, set on a spur of the Akaishi range as a forward outpost of the Southern Alps. From the Shirabiso Highland (1,916 m) the standard route follows Shirabiso Pass and Mae-Odaka to the summit in roughly 3.5 hours round trip. Old-growth subalpine forests of Veitch fir and Yezo spruce, mantled in luxuriant moss, give the trail its quiet character, and the summit stands close enough to take in Mount Akaishi and the main Southern Alps spine. The peak features in Shin Hana no Hyakumeizan.
