Mount Mijo

Mijoyama is a 375 m hill in Atsugi, Kanagawa Prefecture, the centrepiece of the city's Mijo hiking course. The route climbs from the Kotakuji Onsen entrance past the Ogama Benzaiten and Nanamagari Pass to the summit, where the Sagami plain spreads out below and, on clear days, the skyscrapers of Shinjuku and the city of Yokohama are visible. Namerai, a rock face popular with climbers, stands along the way. A mountain fort called Mijodai is said to have stood here in the Muromachi period, with soldiers stationed as lookouts.
